Dale Earnhardt Jr:

Everyone has heard about the upcoming ability to produce and race your own custom paint with the IRacing sim. Well, here is a little insight on how it looks thus far. I am in no way a solid painter, but with just knowing the basics of photoshop and how easily IRacing has made it to import a scheme, I was able to produce a few options within no time.

IRacing will provide the initial templates. In the future, Im sure you will be able to find members created templates with more options and layers to work with. With what little time Ive spent with it, Ive noticed that IRacing template was much easier to use when lining up certain pieces of the car and making graphics seamless across the vehicle.

When using the template, IRacing gives you the option of personal sponsors and the color and graphics of the car itself. Your number although, will be the number you choose and design within IRacing's current paintshop. This may not please all members, but what it does do is cut part of the lengthy creative process out of making a scheme. Your sure to find a number font and color combination that will work with your overall design. Whats up to you is throwing down some paint and a few easy to place sponsors and your basicly done. Newly created members templates will again cut down on the length of the process.

Once you have your car designed how you wish, its time to plug it into the sim. At this time, this is a super simple step. Save your work in .tga format. You will then place it inside a specific folder in your My Documents/IRacing folder. Thats all there is to it. You start the sim, and hit the track and there is your new scheme.

Currently, IRacing will not provide an auto upload feature that will capture your other competitors schemes once you join a session. We have seen this in other sims, but there are some dangerous legal grey areas that IRacing chooses to steer clear of. What will need to be done by the community is a universal website that would serve as a gathering place for everyones schemes. Thats one reason why I wanted to post this information in the first place. With the option to paint your own car coming very soon and the absence of an auto upload feature, its going to be up to us to keep things as organized as possible. What would be preferred is a website with a file transfer system like we've seen in the past. If someone does choose to run a custom scheme but you are unable to acquire it, what you will see on your end is the scheme they have saved inside IRacing's current paintshop.

In addition to that idea, it might be clever to also produce a car viewer program, as currently the only way to check your work is to resave the scheme and plug the new file into the data and hit the track thus checking the replay. This process is the only time consuming part at the moment.

Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy knowing a little inside info on the upcoming custom paint feature. Below are some of the work Ive been able to produce in just a very short period of time. Go easy, Im no expert on the art. Just a huge fan.

Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course will come in the summer next year. That`s a great track imo..

The official name says it all: Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course. One of America’s favorite race tracks snakes, twists and turns up hill and down dale through the lush countryside of central Ohio. It’s not part of a glitzy multi-purpose motorsports complex; there’s never been an oval or a drag strip here . . . and never will be. Mid-Ohio is 2.25 miles of pure, unadulterated sports car heaven (2.4 miles with the Keyhole chicane). No wonder the SCCA made it home to the National Runoffs from 1994 to 2005. And no wonder Mid-Ohio has been a fixture on every major American road racing series calendar for nearly forty years. Beginning in the summer of 2010, it can be a part of your iRacing calendar as well.

Oran Park and Zolder in iRacing..

Pair of 47-Year-Old Tracks Half A World Apart
To Be Available to Global Racing Audience

BEDFORD, MA (December 1, 2009) – When the checkered flag fell over a field of motorcycles at Australia’s Oran Park Raceway earlier this month it marked the final competitive motorcycle event in the 47-year history of this suburban Sydney motorsport facility. Following an all-comers car race at the end of January, 2010, Oran Park Raceway is slated to become a housing development.

But that won’t be the end of racing competition for Oran Park. In future years, while suburbanites sleep peacefully where Aussie V8s and Formula 5000 cars once thundered, racing enthusiasts from all around the world will be competing with one another in the virtual world on an exact digital duplicate of this historic venue, including its unique-for-Australia over-and-under figure-eight set of turns.

“Oran Park Raceway has played an important role in the history of Australian motorsport,” noted Divina Galica, director of partner relations for iRacing.com. “Too many great race tracks have been lost forever; I’m pleased that we’re able to preserve this digital version of Oran Park and make it available to racers all over the world.”

Galica also announced that iRacing and the management of Circuit Zolder have signed an agreement that will see the sometime host of the Belgian Grand Prix join Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Zandvoort as initial European venues in the iRacing service.

“Zolder is our second track on the continent of Europe, after Zandvoort,” Galica said. “In the fullness of time we’ll have quite a few more, but it’s exciting to have two such challenging driver’s circuits to begin with.” Galica said she expected that Circuit Zolder would join the iRacing inventory in the latter half of 2010.

Capturing Oran Park

Last month a surveying crew from iRacing.com made a series of millimeter-accurate scans of the 1.65-mile Oran Park facility, including all three of the track’s existing configurations and further documenting it with thousands of digital photographs. Over the course of the next several months, the data gathered by the iRacing surveyors will be transformed into a virtual version of the track that will join Phillip Island as the first two Australian iRacing circuits.

Oran Park opened its gates in 1963 and regularly hosted rounds of the Australian Touring Car Championship, V8 Supercar Championship Series, Australian Drivers' Championship and Australian Sports Sedan Championship.

The Australian Grand Prix (not then a Formula One race, it featured F5000 cars) was held at Oran Park in 1974 and 1977. In the 1970’s the circuit attracted large crowds for touring cars and sports sedans. The Rothmans 500 for touring cars was staged in 1977 and 1978, and touring car endurance races continued through the running of the 1989 Pepsi 300. The final running of the contemporary V8 Supercar series Oran Park event was held in 2008. Oran Park was also home over its long history to club road-racing events, so it’s fitting that the final competitive race meet held January 23-24, 2010 is an all-comers amateur race.

Circuit Zolder

Like Oran Park, half a world away, Circuit Zolder opened in 1963. It hosted ten Belgian Grands Prix during the 1970s and 1980s. Mario Andretti drove a Lotus 79 to victory there on his way to the 1978 Formula One World Championship, but the death of Gilles Villeneuve in practice for the 1982 race signaled the beginning of the end of Formula One competition at the 10-turn, 2.492-mile circuit.

Following a series of safety-related upgrades in 2006, Zolder hosted a European round of the North American-based ChampCar series. The overall lap record was established by Sebastian Bourdais on his way to victory in that one-off event. Today Circuit Zolder is host to the FIA Formula 2, FIA WTCC Race of Belgium and the GT Belcar championship, including the 24 Hours of Zolder.

I`m a Pro driver in road and i`m driving the Skip Barber, why shouldn`t I do that? I payed for all the cars and i`m driving what I want when I`m in racing mood.

Im not faster than many Rookies, D, C, B and A licensed drivers. I don`t like the bigger cars I`m more into the smaller ones. I don`t care about what other people thinks about that - I`m there to RACE and having fun...

Quote from UncleBenny :iRacing site/forums are down for maintenance, that can only mean one thing.

- Allow SoftTH 1.09RC.

- Reduce occurance of Load Error 67 on certain XP installs.

- Fix long names overrunning in new F1 black box ahead/behind fields.

- Restored a force feedback setting back to the way it was, as it unintentionally changed how some member's force feedback feels.

- You can no longer share setups to drivers in different types of car.

- Show "Club" instead of "Team Members" in setup sharing.

- Improved initial fuel mileage estimate.

- Star Mazda's speedometer is recalibrated to match the shorter tires.

- Added some extra time to hosted lone qualify sessions to accommodate the out lap.

- Fixed the hosted session race’s to not cut off the last few laps before 4 hours has elapsed.

- Corvette C6.R is now available

- Dallara IndyCar is now available

Know issue: Setup sharing with just club members is not working. Is already fixed but did not make this update.

I think it`s because I can handle the Skip Barber but not the Mazda... And a Mazda on R. Atlanta... I have had fun in the Mazda at Road America but that track is also easier in that car...at least for me...
